A perfect sacrifice bunt by Eagle designated hitter Matt Hohertz advanced Rangel, who had taken a base on balls.

It was a murderous 1st inning, during which Salinas faced every batter in the Hays lineup. Salinas walked one and gave up 3 base hits, including a triple to Jon Tijerina, who is shown above.

Eagle Faithful on an early Spring evening. Akins and Hays schools are geographically close. Many of the players and their families have long histories of playing with and against one another.

With Salinas waiting on deck, Eagle 1st baseman Richard Rogalewski takes a called strike at the plate.

Eagle 3rd baseman Daniel Fabian bats in the top of the 2nd inning. He reached base on a Rebel throwing error.

Eagle outfielder Martinez can't help but show the frustration everyone feels. Stewart tries to shake off one of the errors.

Salinas flies out to center field for the 3rd out in the Eagle 2nd. The score at the end of 1 and a half is Eagles 0, Rebels 5.

Outfielder Daniel Leal's 3rd-inning single was the Eagles' first base hit of the game.

OUCH! Eagle DH Matt Hohertz is hit by a pitch, loading the bases in the top of the 3rd.

Morton slams the ball to Hays 2nd baseman Ryan Kimbro, who mishandles it. The error scores Martinez.

Derek Evans runs for Morton. Evans successfully stole 2nd base, but was thrown out attempting the same larceny at 3rd.

Rebel Coach Ragsdale meets with catcher Tijerina and pitcher Perez, who has just allowed 2 hits and has hit a batter.

Meanwhile, Eagle Coach Velasquez takes the opportunity to meet with his three base runners and upcoming batter Airrik Martinez.

Martinez reaches base on a throwing error to 1st base by Hays pitcher Jacob Perez. Rangel and Hohertz score on the error.

Matt Hohertz jumped on the 1st pitch and sent the ball to shallow center field for a base hit.

Morton catches for the Eagles. Two pitches later, Nesby Cain, at the plate for Hays, hit a 2-RBI home run in the bottom of the 6th.

The Rebels brought on Nesby Cain III to face Morton. Cain is a former Akins Eagle.

Morton gets a small hit off Cain. Unfortunately, Martinez, who was sprinting to 2nd base, is called for interference when the ball hits him for the 2nd time in the inning, and the inning ends.
