	*When a Balk is (apparently) not a Balk*


	With a runner on 1st base, Bowie pitcher Max Herschap stood on the pitching rubber in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Herschap began some kind of throwing motion and then dropped the ball. A balk, you say? Well, yes, according to the rules of baseball, you’d be right. It’s a balk.


	And a balk was exactly what had been called on Eagle pitcher Martin Salinas, when he dropped the ball while standing on the very same pitching rubber at Burger Field during a game with Westlake on March 29. ... But not today. Today, the rule didn’t apply.
