EARLY TROUBLE. Mustang shortstop Tyler Hicks (left) became a base runner as a result of a fielding error in center field. He advanced to 3rd on a throwing error by 3rd baseman Kevin Deleon (shown here at right). Then Hicks scored on a passed ball by the catcher. A run that should never have existed.

Eagle center fielder Airrik Martinez takes a cut at the ball during a 1st-inning at bat.

Righthander Salinas hurls the ball in the top of the 1st inning.

(left to right) Eagle 2nd baseman JD Hernandez, shortstop Jason Rangel and left fielder Derek Evans leave the field after Evans' catch of a fly ball ends the top of the 1st inning.

Eagle outfielder Derek Evans bats in the bottom of the 1st.

Eagle shortstop Jason Rangel drew a 1st-inning walk.

A 2nd-inning fielding error at 3rd base leaves Eagle 1st baseman Richard Rogalewski standing empty-handed as Mustang runner Parker Barry is safe. Barry should have been an out. Instead, he became a run.

Eagle catcher Morton gets low behind the plate as Marble Falls 2nd baseman Bill Hendrix grounds out in the top of the 2nd.

Eagle catcher Charles Morton grounds out to end the bottom of the 1st.

Daniel Guerra replaced Deleon at 3rd base in the top of the 2nd. Here, Guerra bats in the bottom of the 2nd inning.

Having gained 1st base because he was hit by a pitch, Rogalewski takes a lead.

Eagle left fielder Jordan Treviņo flips the ball to shortstop Rangel after making a routine catch for an out in the top of the 5th.

Martinez trots in from center field after having caught a fly for the 3rd out.

Bottom of the 5th. The scoreboard shows 4 Eagle errors and a score of 3 to 0 favoring the Eagles' opponent. Without a doubt, the one explains the other.

Running for Salinas, Brandon Stewart takes a lead at 3rd.

Prepared to sacrifice, Eagle 2nd baseman JD Hernandez delivers a bunt that moves the runners AND takes him safely to 1st base.

Eagle Head Coach Steve Velasquez watches as 3rd baseman Guerra strikes out in the bottom of the 5th.

Salinas appears poised to hit, but his patience yielded a walk on 4 straight balls.

Eagle outfielder Jordan Treviņo drives a 5th-inning base hit to left field, bringing in the 2 runs that would prove to be the only Eagle scoring in the ballgame.

Among the Eagle Faithful.

Salinas hit safely in the bottom of the 7th inning.

Rangel swapped positions with Salinas and became the Eagles' 7th inning reliever.

Down 6-2 in the bottom of the final inning, the Eagles are kept alive by when Matt Hohertz drives a base hit to the gap in right-center field.

Morton sends the ball to right field for a 6th-inning opposite field base hit.

Jordan Treviņo was the final batter of the contest. Hohertz and Salinas were left on base.

Postgame handshakes.

Do the math. When a team's defensive error count equals its hit production, the outcome is hardly ever positive. Five errors worked to sink the Eagles, and 5 hits were not enough to keep them afloat.

Treviņo, Morton, Hohertz, Salinas and Hernandez each had 1 base hit.
