RESULTS & COMMENTARY: GAME 1.
This was the Eagles' 1st game of the 2013 SAISD Tournament. East Central, a San Antonio team, wore white pants with a pinstripe and black jerseys with gold numerals. Eagles wore gray pants and navy blue/muted gold jerseys. The game was called on the tournament run rule after 5 innings. Eagle righthander Austin McNicholas pitched a 2-hit shutout. Eagles had 7 total hits. Sam Davilla and RC Medrano each had 2 RBIs.
Final score: EAGLES 8, EAST CENTRAL HORNETS 0. Winning pitcher: McNicholas, losing pitcher: Ryan Ramos. East Central is now 1-1 for the season. Eagles are also 1-1.

GAME 2.
The Eagles were matched with the LBJ Jaguars from Austin in the second appearance for both teams in the tournament. The Jags and the Eagles had seen one another in a preseason scrimmage a little more than two weeks previously.
Jonathan Candelas was the starting pitcher for Akins, and the Eagles held the lead into the 5th inning. In the bottom of the 5th,
shortly after Eagles reliever Ty Snyder stepped to the mound, LBJ tied the game at 6 apiece on a 3-RBI home run by LBJ
pitcher (and tuba soloist) Nate Hattersly that immediately followed an RBI single from Jags 3rd baseman Zach Johnson. The
Eagles regained the lead on a 2-RBI double from Candelas that scored Eagles Austin McNicholas and Rene Castro, both of
whom had walked to start the 6th inning. A sacrifice bunt by RC Medrano had moved the runners to scoring positions.
McNicholas closed for the Eagles in the bottom of the 6th, allowing 2 hits but only 1 run, preserving the win for Snyder and earning the save for himself.
The Eagles recorded 8 hits. Candelas was 4 for 4 at the plate, and three of those four hits were doubles. Eagle 3rd baseman
Ryan Medrano had a 3rd inning 2-RBI 2-bagger, and 1st baseman Steve Martinez had an RBI hit in the 3rd inning and an RBI double in the 5th. Catcher Sam Davilla batted in a run on a 2nd inning hit.
The time limited game went 6 innings. With Jaguar runners on 1st and 2nd in the bottom of the 6th, the game concluded on a
heads-up Eagles defensive play. LBJ batter Zach Johnson hit the ball to left field, scoring Anthony Rasp. Eagles left fielder
Austin Scully fielded the hit and relayed the ball to Ty Snder, who had moved to shortstop after his inning on the mound.
Snyder tossed the ball to 2nd baseman Rene Castro for the game-ending force out of LBJ base runner Tristan Burt at 2nd.
Although the stats show no recordable errors for the Eagles, that tells something less than a complete story. An Eagles base
runner appeared to have scored in the 3rd inning, but his run was erased and he was declared to be out because he had failed
to touch 3rd base. The one-run margin in the final scores of two of the Eagles’ four SAISD Tournament games is a reminder that each run can make a difference.
