Eagle Pride Award

Coaches from the eight teams in District 25-5A vote each year on this honor. For their 2008 season performance, more Eagles than ever before were recognized.  Brandon Rivera, Randy Berg and Tyler Pinson were selected to the 1st Team, and Kyle Smith was chosen for the 2nd Team.

Selected by the members of the Eagle baseball teams, the repeat winner for 2008 is Randy Berg. As the Eagles’ number 1 starter behind the plate this season, Randy caught 187 innings and allowed a total of just 8 passed balls.

With an overall batting average of .288, Kyle Smith led the 2008 Eagles in the category of extra-base hits with 9, including two triples and two home runs.

Most Improved Player

The Most Valuable Player for the 2008 Akins Eagles Varsity team is Tyler Pinson. Tyler came off an injury in his junior year to become the Eagles’ ace in 2008. He was a 10-game winner with a team-best ERA of 2.66. Facing 397 batters, he retired 53 of them on strikeouts while walking only 23.

The Most Valuable Player for the 2008 Akins Eagles Junior Varsity Navy team is Corey Pinson.
