The Eagles drew the host team on its own field for their opening game in the Georgetown Invitational Tournament. Eagle lefthander Eric Davila pitched a complete game, but the effort was hurt by defensive
errors at key points in the game.
The Eagles drew a tough tournament opponent in the Southlake Carroll Dragons. All but one batter in Carroll's lineup were able to hit Eagle pitching. That firepower fueled a carousel of runners that ended the
game early.
The Eagles committed only one recordable fielding error in the McCallum game, but that was one too many. Just as importantly, the team failed to capitalize on its offensive opportunities. Ten Eagle batters
reached base. Only one would make it home to score. Eagle batters delivered only 3 base hits, and those were spread out over 3 different innings. It's tough to sustain any kind of scoring rally that way.
The Eagles held Bowie, a well regarded team, scoreless for 5 of the game's 7 innings, and that says something for the Eagle defense. But with only 5 hits - compared to 12 for the Bulldogs - the Eagle bats
just couldn't keep up.
