Throughout the game and from both sides of the plate, Rattler batters liked to show an early bunt in an attempt to draw in the Eagle infield. Shown above in the 1st inning with Eagle catcher Charles Morton are San Marcos batters Chris Alvarez (top) and Jonathan Burleson (bottom). Neither actually bunted. Alvarez was forced out in an unassisted play by Eagle 1st baseman Rogalewski. Burleson drew a walk, but was left on base.

Karbach singles in the bottom of the 3rd. He stole second base before being driven in. His would be the only Eagle run to score.

Eagle catcher Morton had already received this 3rd inning pitch and was preparing to gun down a runner trying to steal 2nd base when San Marcos batter Philip Eastland began an intentionally late swing to prevent the throw. The Bush League stunt, which appears to have been orchestrated by the San Marcos coaching staff, even had Eastland looking to his dugout for the cue to swing. The poorly executed San Marcos illegality resulted in the runner's being sent back to 1st base. Sophomore (and sophomoric) Eastland was called out by the plate umpire for interference. It's worth noting that the Rattlers tried this same blatant deceit a second time in the game and got away with it. Matching its 1-for-2 record at pulling off illegal plays, San Marcos is also currently .500 in district contests and claims a .500 mark in overall games.
