COMMENT: Incompetent operation of the Nelson scoreboard caused confusion
throughout the game. Counts of balls, strikes and outs were seldom
correct. A scoreboard that displays incorrect information is worse than
a scoreboard that’s missing or simply turned off. Scoreboard operation
is not rocket science, but it requires and deserves the attention of
the operator. The Nelson scoreboard operator might wish to consider
suspending his personal cellphone conversations during the game, as a
way of allowing his focus on the task at hand.

GAME 5.

2016 AUSTIN ISD TOURNAMENT
MARCH 05, 2016, at Nelson  5:00 pm

COPPERAS COVE  12     AKINS   6

             1   2   3   4   5             R   H   E
COPPERAS CV  0   2   5   2   3           12 14   1
AKINS        3   1   1   0   1             6   6   0

Game called on tournament time limit after 5 innings.

WINNING PITCHER: JOHNSON (2-1)
LOSING PITCHER:  OLVERA (0-2)

AKINS IS 6-5.

COMMENT: The incompetence of the scoreboard operator continued. Same
guy. The problem transcends the matter of whether the Eagles are
winning or losing. Well into the 3rd inning of this game, the
scoreboard was still indicating that the teams on the field were the
competitors from the previous game at Nelson. During more than one
half-inning, the number of outs was shown either as “0” or as “3”
throughout the entire at-bat. Being able to know the count and the
number of outs is essential for those who seek to play the game. It
may be argued that a lazy or defective scoreboard operator does not
win or lose a game, but at the very least, he inflicts a completely
unnecessary distraction that shouldn’t be inserted arbitrarily as a
part of any game. It’s avoidable. Get the guy some training, bring in
a replacement, or simply turn off the power to the distraction.
