Déjà vu? Non.

The Eagles and the Jaguars had met just a little more than two weeks earlier in a 3-way scrimmage that included the Hutto Hippos. Did that preview give either team an advantage?

Probably not. The Eagles recorded eight hits on this night, while giving up twelve hits in the 6-inning tournament duel. Ty Snyder, who, in just one inning on the mound, allowed an RBI single and a 3-RBI home run, was the winning pitcher. While the Jags seemed to find some success against Snyder, they had not faced him in the scrimmage, where he had pitched only against Hutto.

Eagle starting pitcher Jonathan Candelas logged three scoreless innings against the Jaguars, but left the mound in the 5th after having giving up eight hits. LBJ's batters had not seen Candelas in the scrimmage.

Austin McNicholas, who had pitched against LBJ in the early February scrimmage, was credited with the save in the tournament game.

At the plate, Candelas had reached base only on LBJ fielding errors in the preseason scrimmage. In this tournament game against the same team, he would go 4 for 4, with three of his hits being for extra bases.

Move along, folks. There's nothing to see (again) here.

Steve Martinez scores from 2nd base on Davilla's RBI single. Eagles 2-0.

Jared Mendez scores on a 2nd inning double steal that sent him home and Steve Martinez from 1st base to 2nd. Mendez and Jags pitcher Nate Hattersly appear to be competing in some sort of equestrian event at home plate.

Apparently, riding an opposing player like a small horse is FROWNED UPON IN THIS ESTABLISHMENT!

Congrats to Mendez from Eagle teammates for successfully stealing home.

Sam Davilla sprints to 1st base on his RBI base hit in the top of the 2nd inning.

LBJ's Anthony Rasp waits for the throw. RC Medrano slides head first to steal 2nd.

LBJ pitcher Hattersly walks DH Andrew Montague.

The scoreboard shows 3 Eagle runs on Ryan Medrano's hit, but one of those runs will be disallowed. Gotta touch all the bags. Seems like a good rule.

Andrew Montague appears to have scored, but he had failed to touch 3rd base. Ultimately, he's out and the run won't be counted.

Ryan Medrano hits a 2RBI double in the top of the 3rd inning.

RC Medrano scores on his brother's hit. LBJ catcher Joe Gonzales stands by.

Running for Candelas, Jared Mendez scores on Ryan Medrano's double, making the score Eagles 4, Jaguars 0 in the top of the 3rd.

Ryan Medrano takes a big lead at 2nd before stealing 3rd.

Sam Davilla would reach 2nd base on an error that moves Martinez to 3rd.

Eagle left fielder Peter Duran sprints into foul territory to field the bouncing hit of Anthony Rasp. It was a legitimate single, but Rasp wanted more, and a heads-up Eagle defense wouldn't allow it.

Rasp tries to add an extra base but would be thrown out 7-6-4. Eagle 2nd baseman Rene Castro prepares to apply the tag.

Trying unsuccessfully to score on a passed ball, Steve Martinez is TACKLED MUGGED TAGGED at home plate by LBJ LINEBACKER WRESTLER PITCHER Nate Hattersly. NFL WWE REFEREE UMPIRE Benny Jaramillo awards Hattersly the SACK TAKEDOWN OUT.

BOTTOM OF THE 4TH: After Hattersly gets a base hit, takes 2nd on a passed ball, and then moves to 3rd on Weinberg's single, Coach Velasquez calls a mound meeting. In the background, Snyder trots to the bullpen.

Eagle 1st baseman Steve Martinez holds Jag runner Daniel Weinberg at 1st, as starting pitcher Jonathan Candelas works deeper into the 4th inning with 2 on base and no one out.

RC Medrano hits a line drive to the Jaguar pitcher.

Not so much. Designated hitter  Andrew Montague strikes out looking, for the 3rd Eagle out in the top of the 4th inning.

Eagle dugout in the top of the 5th inning.

Mendez runs for Candelas in the 5th.

Steve Martinez hits an RBI double, scoring Mendez.

Running for Candelas, Jared Mendez scores on the RBI hit of Martinez.

Peter Duran gets small to avoid being hit by a pitch.

Duran hit the ball to the shortstop. It might have been a close play at 1st, but Martinez, who was not forced, ran into the fielder's choice, and that made the 3rd out easy at 3rd base. Coach Velasquez has a brief word with Martinez as they leave the field.

Steve Martinez exits the game in the bottom of the 5th inning.

Eagle infield: Ryan Medrano at 3rd, Austin McNicholas at short, Rene Castro at 2nd, Jonathan Candelas at 1st.

The first two batters in the bottom of the 5th hit safely. Runners are on 1st and 3rd. The Eagle battery confers.

Inheriting a 4-run lead with 2 on base, right hander Ty Snyder enters the game in 5th inning relief. Candelas moves to 1st. Martinez comes out.

Jaguar batter Joe Gonzales takes off for 1st base on a dropped 3rd strike. As plate umpire Benny Jaramillo watches carefully, Eagle catcher Sam Davilla fires the ball to 1st baseman Jonathan Candelas for the final out of the surprising and disappointing 5th inning.

Reliever Ty Snyder takes the mound at SAISD field 1 in the 5th inning.

After just 4 pitches, things are greatly different. Zach Johnson hits an RBI single to make the score 6-3. Jared Mendez goes to the right field wall (above) to get a last look at Nate Hattersly's 3-run homer. The 4-run lead is gone. Eagles 6, Jaguars 6.

Eagle Coach Steve Riojas.

RC Medrano would lay down a perfect sacrifice bunt in the 6th, moving Castro to 2nd and McNicholas to 3rd.

LBJ Coach Ruben Covarrubias brings Tristan Burt to the mound in the 6th.

Medrano did his job. Now it's time for Montague to shine.

Jags meet at the mound in the top of the 6th to discuss dealing with runners at 1st and 2nd.

Rene Castro also draws a base on balls.

Austin McNicholas would walk in the top of the 6th.

While LBJ makes changes on the mound, Eagle Head Coach Velasquez gathers batters and base runners.

Backward K. Designated hitter Andrew Montague goes down on 3 successive pitches. Eagles are down to their last out.

Although high school games are 7 innings, the tournament time limit likely won't allow it here. If the Eagles suffer 1 more out, they'll have to settle for a tie - or a loss.

Austin McNicholas scores on a 6th-inning 2-RBI double from the bat of Jonathan Candelas.

Rene Castro scores on Candelas's 2-RBI extra base hit. His third double of the evening came at just the right time for the Eagles.  Eagles 8 LBJ 6.

Reassigned to right field, LBJ's Nate Hattersly chases Ryan Medrano's long 6th-inning foul, which appeared momentarily to extend the Eagle rally. Medrano would strike out to end the inning.

Eagle closer Austin McNicholas comes on in 6th-inning relief.

Now playing left field, Austin Scully hauls in the fly ball of LBJ's Daren Wytaske. One away.

Jubilant Eagles welcome McNicholas and Castro back to the dugout.

Candelas himself emerges from a cloud of dust at 2nd base to survive the too-late tag of Jaguar shortstop Anthony Rasp.

Eagle catcher Sam Davilla looks for Jag batter Anthony Rasp to be the final out. The tenacious Rasp had 2 strikes on him, but keeps fouling off pitches and finally turns an infield squib into a base hit.

Eagle pitcher Austin McNicholas watches as the throw to Candelas at 1st arrives too late to beat Rasp. McNicholas had invested 6 pitches with Rasp - 5 of them strikes - and must now start over.

LBJ batter Ben Reiden fouls off a pitch on his way to a strikeout for out number 2 in the bottom of the 6th inning.

McNicholas pitches in the 6th.

Rasp is now on 2nd and Tristan Burt is on 1st, held by Candelas. With the Eagles ahead by 2, McNicholas faces LBJ's potential winning run, Zach Johnson.

Zach Johnson, who has gone 2 for 3 at the plate in this game.

And suddenly it's over. LBJ's Johnson hits to left field, scoring Rasp. Eagle left fielder Scully throws to shortstop Snyder, who throws to 2nd baseman Castro, and Burt is out at 2nd, where he still stands as the Eagles run off the field. Fielder's choice 7-6-4 ... out number 3.
