with Bastrop Bears at Burger Field.
District 25-5A 4th place tiebreaker.

Anatomy of a double rundown

Rivera already had the ball. Rivera chased Frey back toward 2nd base and then lobbed the ball to Eagle 2nd baseman Keith Rodriguez (12), who made the tag for out number two.

Meanwhile, Knebel broke for 2nd. But when Frey's rundown had ended, Rodriguez had the ball and was standing near 2nd base. Knebel dashed back toward

1st, but Rodriquez and Eagle 1st baseman Kyle Smith simply threw the ball to one another a couple of times, as they tightened the box on Knebel. Knebel made a headfirst dive to 1st, but Smith tagged him easily for the third out.

Long after the Eagles were in their dugout preparing to bat, Corey Knebel was sitting on the ground at 1st base.

With one out in the top of the 6th. Bastrop outfielder Bobby Frey (9) was on 2nd base as the result of his double. Bastrop pitcher Corey Knebel (15) delivered a grounder to the left side of the infield. Eagle shortstop Matt Cavazos (7) snatched the ball and immediately fired it to 3rd base. As Frey approached 3rd base, he was surprised to find that Eagle 3rd baseman Brandon

Down the baseline between 2nd and 3rd. Eagle pitcher Pinson covers 3rd as Rivera flips the ball to Rodriguez.

6 - 5 - 4. With Rivera nearby, Rodriguez runs down Frey and tags him, as Knebel takes off toward 2nd.

Moments later, Rodriguez runs Knebel back toward 1st base.

4 - 3 - 4 - 3. Smith tightens the box on Knebel.

Milliseconds before the tag. Smith reaches out. Knebel reaches out. Smith would win.

Some unspecified time after the tag. Knebel still sits at 1st. Notice that Aaron Martinez has already made it to the dugout from left field.

Three seconds after the tag. The umpire rings up Knebel and Smith trots off the field.
