Westlake’s expensive and impressive facility is just a part of a long and successful baseball tradition that also involves fine athletes, good coaching and hard work. Still, it’s hard not to be reminded of what money can buy. The Chaps have their own lighted field for games and practices. They even have their own separate practice infield tucked away behind the 3rd base dugout.

The disparity of it all was punctuated on Saturday afternoon when the umpire strolled over to the Eagle dugout after having inspected Westlake’s equipment.

“So,” the official asked, “did you folks get all new batting helmets this year, too?”

Starting pitcher Randy Berg loosens up in the bullpen, as Eagle Assistant Coach Derek Peveto watches the infield.

Things you like to see an umpire do when your team is in the field. Berg’s pitch to Ben Druss is a called strike.

Andy Pettitte’s got nothin’ on this look. Berg would give up 3 hits and a single run in 6 innings.
