Making his inaugural appearance in an Eagle Varsity game, Aaron Martinez runs for Salinas.

Michael Flores is out at 1st, but his sacrifice bunt moves the runner to 2nd.

The Eagle dugout is full. Coach Velasquez brought 19 players.

[INSERT OBVIOUS CAPTION HERE.] Hint: Eagles have given up 3 runs so far, all unearned, and have just failed to score in the top of the 2nd inning when a batter went down for the final out on a called 3rd strike - with a runner at 3rd base.

Salinas comes out after 1 and 2/3 innings. One strikeout, 3 walks, 6 hits, 9 runs - 6 of them earned. The scoreboard, inaccurate all evening, showed a different hit tally

Berg catches for the Eagles. At bat, Rebel catcher Malay accepts a walk. He was one of 6 consecutive batters who would score earned runs for Hays in the 2nd inning.

This was the final district game for a while between neighboring rival high schools Akins and Hays. The schools will be in different districts next year. Although the following morning’s Austin newspaper would report that there were only 2 Eagle hits, the actual number was 7. Seven wasn’t enough.

Eagle coaches brought 19 players to the contest. Each of the 19 played.
