Rain poured on the morning of the game. A lawn tractor squishes through the swamp behind 1st base at Field #1 of the SAISD Spring Sports Complex.

Eagle Faithful came for a ballgame, but were also treated to a pretty good groundskeeping exhibition of how to recover a playing field that’s taken a lot of water.  

As coaches chat nearby on the soggy grass of the infield, Highlands catcher Javier Madrigal uses a house broom to sweep at a puddle of water in front of the pitcher’s mound. 

Coach said, “Stay in the dugout and relax!”

The game, which had been scheduled for noon, finally got started at 2:25 PM, when Derek Evans grounded out to 3rd.

Owls go down 1,2,3 in the final stanza. Berg capped his 3-hit shutout with a strikeout of Javier Madrigal in the bottom of the 7th.
